What is a professional organiser and what do they do?
Professional organisers provide clients with practical support, guidance and encouragement to organise the areas of their home or work life which need it most. Individual organisers offer a range of organising services, such as decluttering, storage solutions, paperwork, downsizing, life coaching and digital organising.
Other professional organisers work with individuals with specific conditions, such as hoarding disorder, or ADHD, and it is important that you find an organiser suitable for your needs.
I offer a bespoke service that is dedicated to making your life easier. I have a keen interest in enabling clients to establish a healthy and sustainable work/life balance, with a particular focus on decluttering, reclaiming and repurposing spaces, admin and paperwork and time management.
Why do I need to hire someone to help me declutter and organise my home/life?
Almost everyone is capable of decluttering and organising their space/time, but not everyone does. Many clients want to declutter, but feel so overwhelmed by their belongings that they don’t know where to start.
Some clients may have a health condition or difficult life circumstances which make it challenging to take on the project alone. Increasingly, clients are simply looking for an independent perspective, non-judgemental support, and a helping hand to start them on their way to an organised life.
Whatever your motivation behind hiring a Professional Organiser, I am here to provide the guidance and support you need.
Will you make me throw things away?
No. Although the process of decluttering will inevitably require you to let go of belongings which you no longer want or need, there will be no pressure on you to throw things away that you are unsure about.
We can discuss any concerns you have with letting go of certain items at any point in the process. I will be there to offer you guidance and support as you make your decisions, but you will have ultimate control of the belongings which you decide to keep or let go of.
Do I have to be there while you work?
Yes. Although you are free to step out to take short breaks or phone calls, you will need to be present for the majority of the time so that we can get the most out of our sessions.
I will be there to offer you guidance and support as we go through your belongings, but you will decide what to keep and what you are ready to let go of. It is also important to organise your belongings in a way that fits with your daily routine and that you know where to find everything in future.
Will you help me dispose of items I no longer want or need?
I will offer suggestions on the best ways to dispose of any items you wish to let go of. Depending on the items and your location, I may also be able to arrange for a local charity to collect them.
However, you will have ultimate responsibility for disposing of any unwanted items.
Are there any tasks which you don’t do?
I will give your storage surfaces a quick wipe down during the decluttering and organising session, but I do not perform cleaning.
I am also not able to help with any heavy lifting (for example, moving furniture or heavy boxes).
How long will it take?
People usually underestimate how long it will take to complete a decluttering and organising project. Be realistic about your space and how easy it will be for you to decide what to do with your belongings.
As a guideline only, it is usually possible to organise a single wardrobe and small chest of drawers in half a day. A full day is usually required to organise wardrobes and drawers larger than this.
It is difficult to predict how long it will take to complete life admin, paperwork, research, etc., because they are all so unique. Please contact me to discuss your project and I will provide an estimate of the likely time and costs involved in completing it.
Please note that any estimate provided is not legally binding and does not act as a cap on my time and/or fees, unless otherwise agreed.
Do you provide other services?
I offer a range of services, which are all focused on enabling clients to establish a healthy and sustainable work/life balance.
In addition to decluttering and organising, I can also help you to bring order and routine to your life admin, offer suggestions for better time management, research that lifestyle project or decision you have been meaning to get to, or help you to complete your seasonal projects.
If the service you are looking for is not listed above, please contact me to see if I can help.
Is there anything I need to do before you arrive?
You do not need to clean or tidy before I arrive and there's no need to buy new storage solutions at this stage. We can work with what you already have around the home. It's always easier to go shopping for storage once you know which of your belongings you need to find a permanent place for.
Once you have booked a service, I will give you some useful hints and tips on how to make the most of our session. Start thinking about what you want to achieve and which belongings you may find it difficult to let go of.
I’m embarrassed about how untidy my home/space is
Don’t be! We all have that area of our home or life which gets overlooked and it’s easy for things to quickly get out of control.
I offer a discrete and non-judgemental service, and my priority is making your life simpler. If you have any specific concerns in this area, please book your initial free consultation so we can talk these through and I can put your mind at ease.
What to expect on the day of a decluttering and organising session
Whether you are feeling apprehensive or excited about getting started, rest assured that you are in safe hands. We will work at your own pace and on your terms. I will be there to offer you help and support, but you are in complete control of what happens to your belongings. I will never force you to get rid of something that you are unsure about.
Once we are clear on your goals for the session(s) I will offer you guidance as you go through your belongings and decide which items you need (or want) to keep, and those which you are ready to let go of. Once you have decluttered your belongings, I will help you to organise them in a way which is practical and inspiring.
At the end of the process we will discuss:
Hints and tips for keeping your space organised in future;
The most suitable way to dispose of any unwanted items; and
Any follow up support and/or visit(s) which you may need.

What hours do you work?
I can work to fit around your diary. I generally work Mondays to Saturdays between 8am and 8pm, but evening and Sunday bookings are available on request (subject to availability, at no extra charge).
What qualifications do you have?
I have completed the APDO introductory level course for professional organisers.
Prior to becoming a professional organiser, I spent ten years working in the City, so I am greatly experienced in solving all kinds of problems under pressure and juggling competing demands on my time.
Are you insured?
Yes. I have professional indemnity and public liability insurance with Westminster Insurance.
Will you keep information about me confidential?
Yes. I offer a confidential and discrete service. I will keep any personal or sensitive information which I come across during the project strictly confidential.
I take my data protection responsibilities seriously and I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
I am also a member of the Association of Professional Declutterers and Organisers (APDO) and I am committed to the APDO Code of Ethics, which includes strict confidentiality.
I will only use anonymised details of projects in my marketing material, and only then if given me permission to do so.
